FAQ
Is story mode playable as a civilian?
What does Xbox 2-5 mean?
Does Myers have to kill the whole lobby?
What modes does Steam actually list?
Steam’s category flags for app 3219630 include Single-player, Multi-player, PvP, Online PvP, Co-op, and Online Co-op. Combined with official videos and Early Access coverage, this wiki treats four play buckets as sourced: Myers-only story mode, online 1v4, online co-op, and private matches. Steam also lists Offline Play, which Hotfix 1 says can be affected by the login queue.

| Bucket | Sourced meaning | Do not invent |
|---|---|---|
| Story mode | Six chapters, Myers-only, about two hours, tutorial-like (GameSpot) | A civilian campaign |
| 1v4 | Four player civilians versus Myers | A requirement to kill every player civilian |
| Co-op / private | Steam online co-op plus private-match coverage | A full lobby settings manual |
| Offline Play | Steam flag; Hotfix 1 queue note | A complete offline 1v4 |
Xbox store copy lists online multiplayer 2-5, which matches one Myers plus up to four civilians. That 2-5 window is why a two-player session can still be online multiplayer without being a full 1v4.
How does 1v4 actually end?
Official multiplayer overview footage and GameSpot’s tips describe civilians repairing, warning residents, calling police, and escaping, while Myers stalks, executes, and pressures the neighborhood. GameSpot states Myers does not have to kill every player civilian to win. Bloody Disgusting coverage mentions three random special targets in the Killer Token context. This wiki records those sentences and does not publish a hidden score formula.
Civilian tools named in previews include car keys, gasoline, repair kits, bolt cutters, flashlights, firecrackers, guns, and melee. Named exit types in previews and Chapter 5 notes include car, fence, storm drain, sewer, railroad, cornfield, bunker, and police wagon. Details live on how civilians win and escape routes.
What is story mode, and is it the same as 1v4?
GameSpot’s launch coverage describes campaign as six chapters, Myers-only, about two hours, and tutorial-like. That is a teaching tool for Stalk, Shape Jump, executions, and Haddonfield geography, not a second civilian campaign. Chapter walkthroughs live under story mode. Challenge text is rewritten from IGN and Into Indie Games; reward names are withheld where IGN’s chapter pages are stubs.
Do not expect 1v4 perk decks or Loomis comeback to be documented inside those six chapters unless a source says so. Progression talk belongs on progression and customization.
Where does Loomis fit if he is not a launch civilian?
Loomis is a comeback / detain role, not one of the twelve launch civilians. Trophy lists include coming back as Loomis, detaining Myers to end the match, landing six revolver shots, and Myers executing Loomis for Payback. Read Loomis comeback and the Samuel Loomis character page. Do not add Loomis to the TheGamer civilian stat table; that snapshot covers eight player civilians and does not include him.

What should you pick for a first night?
If you bought Deluxe and you are in Early Access, play one story chapter to learn named tools, then one 1v4 on whatever map the matchmaker gives you. Use the beginner guide for the session loop and the map hub so you are not inventing Peach Street. Private matches are the place to walk a neighborhood without wasting a ranked-feeling game, but this wiki does not invent their lobby toggles.
Hotfix 1 still applies: challenge ticks may fail, Offline Play may stall on login queue, and Series S Performance Mode can glitch. Mode choice does not bypass those notes.
How should you record a mode test?
Write the mode name exactly as the store or menu presents it, then record whether the session was story, 1v4, co-op, private, or Offline Play. Add the platform, map or chapter, player count, and whether the login queue appeared. This is more useful than reporting that a mode is “broken” without context. It also keeps a campaign challenge failure from being mistaken for a general multiplayer rule. The Hotfix 1 page lists the named tracking and queue warnings, while the platform overview keeps regional availability separate. Reopen both when a new build changes the menu wording.
The mode matrix is intentionally conservative: it names what Steam and Xbox expose, then uses GameSpot for the campaign description. It does not promote a video thumbnail, a forum guess, or an empty competitor category into a new playlist. If the developer publishes ranked, spectator, or additional offline rules later, they can be added with their original date and source. Until then, keep the distinction between a store feature flag and a tested in-game result visible in every update. That wording keeps the mode hub useful without promising behavior the sources do not establish for future readers and tonight’s check right now.
